About me

Academic and professional career

1. Degree in forestry at the University of Applied Sciences (Dipl.-Ingenieur, FoWi, University of Applied Sciences in Freising/Weihenstephan)

2. Degree in Sustainable Resource Management (degree: Master of Science, M.Sc., Technical University of Munich)

3. Doctorate (magna cum laudae) at the Technical University of Munich

I was already working as a freelancer during my studies and while I was working at the Technical University of Munich (Wildlife Biology Unit, Chair of Zoology and Unit of Molecular Zoology). The activities included in particular faunistic surveys (monitoring of small mammals and game) as well as consulting and expert work in nature conservation and in the field of conservation genetics (= molecular genetic analysis methods for species conservation). Before completing my dissertation, I acquired expert knowledge in all aspects of conservation genetics (e.g. population genetics, molecular genetic identification of individuals and species and biostatistics) at the Technical University of Munich. During my work at the Technical University of Munich at the Chair of Aquatic Systems Biology (from 2013), I was able to acquire expert knowledge in the areas of aquatic ecology and environmental DNA analysis (eDNA = isolation of genetic material from environmental samples). Among other things, I managed to establish species-specific eDNA markers for two European freshwater mussel species (see publications).
